Shelby + Andrew were all set to get married at a Malibu wedding venue, when it unexpectedly announced that it was closing and canceling all 2018 events, just a short 5 months before their wedding date. Thankfully, a family friend graciously gifted them the use of their beautiful private estate property adjacent to a horse ranch in Atwater Village, knowing they wanted to keep the same date. The whole episode turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as the property ended up having just the right feel for the chill, family-friendly vibe the couple was going for.

While the homeowners had hosted a few charity events on their expansive property, there had never been a wedding, and there had never been an event on what is essentially their gorgeous front lawn, so we had to plan and build out the logistics from the ground up. Deciding to hold the ceremony in the round driveway allowed for both a tree to decorate and the lovely house in the background, while also providing a good flow for guests from this initial area down to cocktails by the pool, and then dinner on the front lawn.

We love Shelby’s rocker style, and her two-piece dress from Dreamers and Lovers fit her like a glove! She completed her bridal look with embellished Betsey Johnson platforms – so chic!

Their heartfelt ceremony had two officiants, one civil and one spiritual. It included a sage smudging ritual, prayers over family heirlooms and a traditional unity candle.

On the lovely video of the day by The Byrd Sisters (which can be seen HERE), you get a real sense of the emotion of the day as you watch Andrew wipe away a tear as he sees Shelby for the first time, and see Shelby’s sister sing while she dances with her father – such beautiful moments.

The dance party lasted all night thanks to our friends at Bouquet Sound, and the crowd was delighted with a late night food truck making fresh churros on the spot. Such a fun one – we hope you enjoy all the beautiful photos from Palos Studio.
