Super 7 – Celebrity Wedding Looks

We love lists! Everyone has a ‘Top Ten’, so here at HCS we’re going with the ‘Super 7’ – a weekly compendium of awesome.

This first Super 7 combines two of my favorite things – weddings and fashion. This is the best of the best, in our humble opinion – the all time best celebrity wedding looks. Enjoy!

7. Lauren Bush Lauren in Ralph Lauren, 2011

It is the greatest fashion coup to be both timeless and modern simultaneously. The W’s niece pulls it off here in grand style wearing (what else), Ralph Lauren Couture. The beading, the headpiece, the veil – all flawless. Glamour meets Americana. Isn’t that what Ralph Lauren is all about? Welcome to the family.

6. Carolyn Bessette Kennedy in Narcisco Rodriquez, 1996

Celebrity gowns are always copied, and this silk Narcisco Rodriquez stunner worn by Bessette as she joined Camelot is the Holy Grail. Allen Schwartz (of A.B.S. fame), claims he has sold over 80,000 copies of this dress – more than any other style they have ever produced.

Slinky and modern, this is the dress that spawned the late 90’s obsession with the bias cut. And of course, you’re not allowed to marry a Kennedy without white gloves – but hers are stylish and chic, just like she was.

5. Elizabeth Taylor in Unknown Green Dress, 1959

Elizabeth Taylor was famously married 8 different times to 7 different men.
In 1958 when Husband #4 Michael Todd was killed in a plane crash, she ran into the arms of his best friend, Eddie Fischer. Scandal arose when Fischer then left his wife Debbie Reynolds to marry Taylor just the next year. At the time another white wedding dress seemed far less than appropriate, so Elizabeth went with this gorgeous sheer green hooded dress.

Color is everything here – the wrong color and that hood would have overwhelmed her, but in this hue it frames her flawless face perfectly. They didn’t call her Dame Liz for nothing, you know.

4. Kate Moss in John Galliano, 2011

A bohemian rhapsody in sequins, Kate Moss never looked better than at her wedding last year, at the age of 37. Part flapper chic, part flower child, the look is light, airy and sexy. The Vogue editorial didn’t hurt either.

3. Bianca Jagger in Yves St. Laurent, 1971

Bianca’s hat/veil combo alone might earn a place on the list, but the chic YSL suit is the epitome of 70’s style. The plunging neckline and clean front are the very definition of sexy and classy, and for a wedding it doesn’t get any better than that.

2. Portia de Rossi in Zac Posen, 2008

The pale pink Posen gown is a confection of tulle – cotton candy as formal wear. The femininity of this dress plays perfectly off the more masculine ensemble Ellen is wearing, but they still look like a perfectly matched pair. The halter and sleek top let the drama play out below her waist, and the slight pouf of hair balances it perfectly. Lovely.

1. Gwen Stefani in John Galliano Couture for Dior, 2004

Ombre before it was cool, the ultimate in bridal individuality, this Dior frock bridges the gap between fashion, glamour and rock’n’roll – which is where Stefani herself resides. While not everyone can have a couture wedding dress, the lesson here is that it should look and feel like it was made just for you.

Stefani loved the dress so much she had two weddings – one in London and one in LA – just so she could wear it twice. Amen sister.

You might have noticed some rather glaring omissions in this list, but I remind you that ‘celebrity‘ and ‘royal’ are not quite the same thing. Look for a post on Royal Weddings soon!!!
